Examination for Men > 70
Basic Check-up + Na, K, Ca, P, Mg, TP, Alb, Glob, Vit B12, Folic Acid, PSA, fPSA, T3, fT4, TSH, CEA, aFP, CA19-9
In the preventive screening of older men, beyond the basic check-up, special attention is given to prostate health as well as to the proper balance of electrolytes and vitamins, which may be disrupted by poor food absorption and potential dehydration. Kidney and liver function are examined more extensively, especially for individuals on medication. Optional tests for neoplasms of major organs, as well as the biochemical regulation of the thyroid, are also conducted.
In addition to the analyses of the basic Check-Up, the following are recommended:
Electrolytes - Sodium (Na+) and Potassium (K+) are crucial salts in the body regulated through the kidneys. As kidney function deteriorates significantly with age, disturbances in their levels can cause confusion, lethargy, and affect mental functions, potentially leading to dangerous cardiac dysfunction. These tests are essential in cases of chronic medication use, especially with diuretics and cardiac drugs that disrupt electrolyte levels.
Calcium (Ca), Phosphorus (P), and Magnesium (Mg) are the main trace elements in humans. In older ages, issues with food absorption, changes in dietary conditions, and medication intake can significantly alter their levels, compromising the health of older men. Cramps and muscular spasms are strong indicators of disturbances in these trace elements.
Total Proteins (TP), Albumins (Alb), and Globulins (Glob) are indirect indicators of proper nutrition (quantitatively and qualitatively) and the proper functioning of hepatic metabolism and the overall health of the immune system. Swelling in the lower extremities, fever, and bone pain are some signs of disturbances in these proteins.
Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid are dietary elements that often present in low levels in older ages due to low dietary requirements and absorption issues intensified by possible polypharmacy. Low levels are associated with anaemia, fatigue, cachexia, and even neurological problems.
PSA (Prostate-specific antigen) and free PSA (free prostate-specific antigen) measured simultaneously provide a safer assessment of prostate health in these ages, distinguishing benign prostatic hyperplasia, expected for age, from prostate cancer.
T3 (Triiodothyronine), fT4 (free thyroxine), and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) are the basic tests that assess reproductive capacity and the regulation of the thyroid gland. Possible hypothyroidism often leads to fatigue and depression in older individuals.
CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen), AFP (alpha-fetoprotein), CA 19-9 (carbohydrate antigen 19-9), when combined, detect common gastrointestinal inflammations and neoplasms of the abdominal organs.
We provide your results with a full explanation, assessment, and initial guidance if necessary.
As preparation for morning blood sampling and examination, the following is suggested:
– Mandatory intake of an evening meal the night before.
– The last meal should be consumed up to 11-12 hours before blood sampling.
– The evening meal should contain fewer animal fats (if it includes cheeses, fatty dairy products, and meats).
- In the morning, only coffee should be consumed, with free water intake. For urine collection:
– Collect the first morning urine.
– Wash the area thoroughly with plenty of water, without soap.
– Discard the first urine of urination and collect a small amount from midstream in a specialized urine collector-
